[A80] Windows RT on Allwinner A31/A80 Octa big.LITTLE in Tablets, performance/power

안녕하십니까 ? EddyLab입니다.

Allwinner A80이 2014년 CES Show에 발표가 되고서, 이후 특별한 정보가 없었습니다만,

2014홍콩전자전에서 많은 정보를 제공하고 있습니다.

앞서 Rockchip사의 RK3288의 정보를 올려 드렸습니다.

유사한 성능등을 보여주고 있습니다만, RK3288 제품과 같이, A80역시 크롬OS기반으로 오픈소스쪽 연동은 이미 내부에서 개발을 하고 있다고 합니다..

특이한 점은 H.265 인코딩, 디코딩을 동시에 수행 할 수 있다는 점이네요..

H.265 인코딩은 상당한 퍼포먼스가 아니면 일반 데스크톱PC에서도 어려운 것으로

알려져 있습니다만, 리얼 라이브 채팅을 4K H.265로 수행을 할 수 있다니.. 대단하네요.. ^^;;

그러나 약점은 @30FPS라는 점인 것 같습니다.

GPU성능은 Apple의 A6와 동급 수준으로 쫒아 와서, RK3288과 좋은 비교가 될 것 같습니다.

이제 AP시장에서는 삼성 엑시노스 최신AP와 1년정도 격차 수준으로 거의 따라 잡았고,

응용범위도 대폭 넓히고 있는 것 같습니다..

내년에는 어떠할지도 궁금해 지네요..  ^^

이제 SPEC상으로 전 세계 AP업체의 SPEC을 리딩하는 수준까지 올 수 도 있을것 같습니다. 

 

Allwinner has announced that the first products featuring its new octa-core processors should arrive by the end of the second quarter of 2014. The Chinese chip maker also says its A80 Optimus Board developer platform should ship in May.

The Allwinner UltraOcta A80 features an 8-core CPU with 4 ARM Cortex-A15 cores and 4 lower-power Cortex-A7 cores. The chip uses ARM big.LITTLE technology and heterogenous computing so that you can use all 8 CPU cores at once when needed, while using a combination of fewer cores most of the time to conserve power.

Allwinner’s chip features PowerVR G6230 graphics with OpenGL ES 3.0 support and can handle H.264 and H.265 video decoding. The chip maker says it can power up to 3 displays at once and it can handle 1080p or 4K video.

The chip supports up to 8GB of RAM and features support for eMMC v4.5 flash storage.

While most Allwinner chips are used in Android or Linux tablets and TV boxes, the company is also positioning the Allwinner UltraOca A80 as a solution for notebooks, smart TVs, desktops, digital signage.

The A80 Optimus Board could also be an interesting alternative to a Raspberry Pi for folks looking for a more powerful single-board computer for development purposes… or for DIY system building.

The board is small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, and features Allwinner’s A80 CPU as well as USB, Ethernet, and other ports along with UART, GPIO, and JTAG connectors.

옥타코어의 CPU와 GPU의 성능을 최대로 발휘하게 한 Test보드입니다.

팬이 부착되어 있는 상태입니다만, 성능과 발열 그리고 소비전력기반으로 적정한 파라메타를 찾아야 할 것 같습니다.. ^^
